Parents oftentimes seek out counseling for their children after a stressor or family change, following a traumatic event, or when they have concerns over their child’s behaviors. Common issues typically addressed with Lacey include childhood behavioral issues, recovery from a trauma, adjusting to family changes, strained relationships & interpersonal issues with family members, tantrums & angry outbursts, depressed mood, grief & loss, healing after a family member’s suicide, defiance, fearfulness, anxiety and panic.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPT-S), Lacey has completed rigorous training in many evidence-based therapies for children and teens.
Play Therapy: Children communicate naturally through play, as their brains grow and develop skills to eventually communicate more effectively verbally. By providing young clients play therapy, Lacey meets children in their natural and preferred environment, allowing children to work through significant concerns in playful manners. With the use of art and play, Lacey can help children heal from loss and trauma, solve problems, express emotions, increase confidence, learn new skills and adjust to transitions.
Filial Therapy: Filial Therapy strengthens parent-child relationships by helping children recover from social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. This type of therapy increases attachment bonds between the child and parent.
EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly effective evidence-based treatment to help individuals recover from trauma, anxiety, depression and many other presenting concerns.
Family Therapy: Family Therapy is effective for families experiencing discord, patterns of arguments, adjusting to household changes, conflict resolution and blended family issues.

Parent Coaching:
The Positive Discipline Way
All parents deserve access to methods of parenting that raise the kind of children we want to launch into the world. As a 1st time parent, Lacey recognized what sort of parent she didn’t want to be but wondered what other kinds of parenting were out there. This led Lacey to discovering Positive Discipline Parenting, which helps parents learn how to be firm in boundaries while being kind and connected with their child. Positive Discipline Parenting is not about perfection. It is not about being permissive or punishment-based - it is about helping parents set firm expectations for children without yelling and punishing children all the time and by helping them grow characteristics that will lead them to become kind, connected, independent people.
Common issues typically bringing parents to seek out parent coaching include dealing with frustrating behavioral problems, feeling frustrated, out of ideas, & put-out with parenting, family discord, blended family issues, co-parenting challenges, and children not respecting parents or obeying family rules.
After parent coaching, parents have the tools to interrupt negative patterns in their home, set healthy boundaries, are clear in decision making, have more connected relationships with their children, resolve conflicts, and are more confident in parenting methods. Positive Discipline Parenting skills are long-term and applicable to parenting from the newborn phase through teenage years.
Lacey teaches parents the Positive Discipline philosophy of parenting, as well as tools that are research-supported and offer long-term change. Sessions with Lacey are accessible through a secure telehealth platform and in-person for parents of children for whom Lacey is providing counseling.
